Worlds: size, symmetry, code

Every world is born from a code: size, symmetry, theme, rules and a seed. Two players with the same code have the same sky.

The choices

  • Size: Small, Medium or Large, that is 49, 61 or 73 cells per side.
  • Symmetry: Central, the enemy side is yours turned half a turn; Mirror, the enemy side is yours seen in a mirror.
  • Theme: the shape of the islands. See World themes.
  • Rules: up to two World rules.

The code

Every world has a name made up by the game and a code of twelve letters and digits that starts with AE. The code can be copied, sent with a link and pasted into New world. Since v15, the code of a world made with the World editor has an extra tail, after the colon, with the changes.

Fairness

Half the sky is built, the other half is its mirror image: the two sides have the same islands, the same springs and the same pieces. Every world passes fairness checks before it is played.

What’s new

  • v24.6 Every world has its own sky. On the route it follows the story: clear and windy in Volana's worlds, veiled with rain in Nembra's, warm with sunset in Lucerno's, dark in the last ones. Other worlds have a fixed sky: same world, same sky.
  • v24.4 After the first match you finish, the game asks whether you want to send us your matches: the moves, the world, the version and the type of device, with no name or account. They show us where the game is hard or boring and help us find bugs.
  • v24.1 There is no code that recognises you, and we do not send your name, account, chat or IP address. The data are in Belgium.
  • v24 After Crowstone two new things open in the menu. The Free world is your home sky, with no enemy, and it saves itself. Gods’ Challenges are eight trials, two per God: if time runs out you haven’t lost, you try again.
  • v24 Omens, the “Cross” symmetry, the looks and the Collector’s crews are now in your language. The “End of the route” feat asks for all fifteen worlds.
  • v23.4 The account, leaderboard, World of the Day and world editor screens follow it too.
  • v22.2 At the end of “Learn to play” the main button is “Start the campaign”: it takes you to the prologue of the Route of the Winds and to Albena, the first world, with the cards the campaign hasn’t opened yet turned off. Before, it started a free match on First Flight, on a random world.
  • v22 Campaigns: the Route of the Winds now has its own Campaigns screen, with a painted card that shows which world and chapter you’re on and what comes in the next world. Future campaigns will show up there.
  • v22 Skirmish opens the world screen, with last time’s world already set up: choose the level and the world, then “Play this world”. “The Tale”, Bestiary, Wiki, Replays, Feats and Settings are at the bottom, in smaller tiles.
  • v21 Towers can’t see Cirro, and Cirro can’t die. In ranked matches and in the World of the Day he plays like a young Cirro, the same for everyone. Online, between friends, everyone brings their own.
  • v21 After a match on the Route of the Winds, “Menu” at the end of the match and “Leave” in the pause take you back to the free world you had chosen, not to the route world.
  • v20 New world no longer closes by itself when you open it right after another screen: on a slow device the click on “Four” could get lost.
  • v20 After a match on the Route of the Winds, the title screen goes back to the world you had chosen. Before, Skirmish started again on the route world, and there the visits of the gods, night, villages and prayers stayed off until you reloaded the page.
  • v19 Match photo: at the end of a match the game draws the world seen from above, with the key moments numbered and listed. You can share it or download it; the replay is inside the photo and in the link. From any moment, “Watch from here” opens the replay just before it.
  • v19 Sky Diary: after every sky you win on the Route of the Winds, Refolo writes a page about that sky. You can read it at the end of the match and from the world card; all the pages are in the wiki too.
  • v18 Siege: in New world, on the Cross, “How to play” has a third choice. You and an ally against eight waves of armed enemy islands, which come down at the marked spot. You win when no enemy island is armed anymore; a line at the top tells you which wave you’re on.
  • v18 World of the Day together: from the World of the Day page, “Together” plays today’s world as a Siege, on a Cross, with a computer ally. For now it doesn’t go on the leaderboard.
  • v18 In four-player matches the messages follow the story: the enemy Keeper brought to your altar turns to light and rises to the gods. The route says fifteen worlds in the Feats too.
  • v17.3 The Route of the Winds has fifteen worlds in six chapters, and each world gives you just one new thing. You start with bridges, Collectors, Gusts and Steles; then, one world at a time, come the Wall, the four elements, the specials, faith and miracles, the crews, the nests and the truce.
  • v17.3 Cards you don’t have yet stay off and say which world they come in. The first time you enter a world, a sheet tells you what’s new, with a “Card” button to read its card.
  • v17.3 Three new worlds: Seriso, Lunaria and Pietra di Fiorina. At Porto Dorabruna, Sterpa offers you a truce: if you accept, the route stops there.
  • v17.3 If you had already moved along the route you lose nothing: the worlds you won stay won, and the new worlds that come before them count as won.
  • v17.3 The free match is now called Skirmish: choose a world and play with everything, like before. World of the Day and online matches don’t change.
  • v17.2 Each world of the Route of the Winds and the World of the Day has a briefing that tells you what to expect in that sky. At the end of the match, a line tells how it went on that world.
  • v17.1 Four-player matches on a cross-shaped world: four home islands at the arms of the cross, each with the same sky in front of it. You play two against two (Blue and Gold against Red and Bone) or free for all.
  • v17.1 Against the computer: in New world choose Players: Four and how to play. Online: the lobby has Create four-player match, and the computer takes the empty seats.
  • v16.1 Online match is easier to read: at the top the ranked match with its button, then open matches with “Create match”, then “Challenge a friend” with the code box, “Join” and the challenge link. On a phone you can see almost everything without scrolling.
  • v15 World of the Day: the button opens a page with today’s world, the top 100 on the leaderboard and yesterday’s results. You play against Gale, without Omens.
  • v15 A win on the World of the Day goes on the leaderboard by itself. The server replays the match and records the time: the fastest wins. You can send in 5 matches a day.
  • v15 If you’re offline, the win is kept aside and sent the next time you open the World of the Day.
  • v15 Ranked matches: in Online match, “Ranked match” looks for an opponent or opens a room on a world from the verified list. At the end of the match you see how much your rating changed. After 10 matches you show up on the leaderboard.
  • v15 World editor, from New world: you move the islands on your half of the sky and choose their springs. The other half follows on its own. The fairness checks tell you right away if the world works.
  • v15 A saved world gets a code of 8 letters and numbers and a link. Whoever opens the link plays that world. In “My worlds” you can open them again, copy the link or delete them.
  • v15 Editor worlds can be played online against a friend too. Replays and saved matches keep them the way you made them.
  • v15 New main menu: the logo at the top and just one big button, Play, or “Resume match” if there’s a saved match. The world and the level are on one line, with “Change”. You now choose the level in New world.
  • v15 Below is a short list: The Route of the Winds, Online match, World of the Day, Saved matches. “Matches on hold” only shows up when you have some. Feats, Replays and Settings are icons at the bottom.
  • v13 The Route of the Winds: twelve worlds to win one after another. You start on First Flight and end on Tempest, with world rules that get tougher and tougher. Each world you win opens the next one.
  • v13 On the route map you see the worlds you won, the open one and the ones still locked. Tap a world to see its shape, level and reward.
  • v13 Omens: before a route world you can pick some to make it harder, for example less wind at the start, a faster enemy or no specials. Each one is worth 1 to 3 marks, and marks unlock new looks.
  • v13 Replays: at the end of a match you can save it and send it with a link. You can watch a replay at speed 1, 2 or 4, paused and turning the view, even offline. If the code doesn’t work with this version, the game tells you.
  • v12 New world: choose size, symmetry, theme and up to two world rules, or leave it to chance. Every world has a name and a code you can share with a link.
  • v12 World of the Day: the same world for everyone, a new one every day.
  • v12 Online match: you stay the same player even if you close the app, you get back into your room with the code and you can challenge people you’ve already met. If they turned on notifications, they get an alert.
