Gust

A wind front crosses the sky. Stronger Gusts, Mortars that miss, uncovered bridges that break.

What happens

For 8 s a front crosses the sky from one side to the other. It’s one of the few things that break bridges. When it passes over a bridge it takes 45 health from the uncovered cells, the ones with at most one friendly cell next to them, and only 6 from the others. A bridge cell you just placed or that was already hit often doesn’t hold. Gust Towers deal double damage. Mortars miss half their shots. Wind bubbles race in the direction of the front.

What to do

  • Before it comes, don’t leave long, lonely bridge tips facing the side it comes from.
  • If you have Gusts lined up, now is the time to strike.
  • If you attack with Mortars, wait for it to pass.

What’s new

  • v24.5 New players get a name taken from the sky and the wind, like “Gentle Gust” or “Quiet Moth”. If you still had “Wanderer” with a number, you get a new one the next time you open the game.
  • v22.3 The “New in this sky” cards and some Bestiary cards say things more simply. The Cloud Wall, for example, now says: “It stops shots from enemy Gust Towers and Burning Mirrors. Put it between their towers and your buildings.”
  • v22.1 The Gust Tower’s cross shows in full even when it crosses a higher terrace, like the temple’s. Before, the arm going up onto the terrace ended up under the ground and disappeared.
  • v22 Towers come in two families. Cross towers shoot far, but only straight along their row and column: Gust Tower, Hail Mortar, Arch of High Winds. Circle towers shoot all around, but short: Lightning Pylon, Burning Mirror, Twin Mirror.
  • v22 Ranges are about a third shorter: the Gust reaches 7 cells, the Mortar 8, the Pylon 4 and a half. No tower can hit a temple from halfway across the map anymore. A cross tower hits the temple if its row or column crosses the temple yard, the 3-by-3 courtyard around the temple.
  • v22 Towers don’t break bridges anymore. A shot on a bridge hurts whoever is on it, but the plank holds. A bridge now falls in just three ways: cut off from the temple for a while, hit by the sky (the Gust on the tips, storm lightning, Saetto’s Wrath), or hit by the powers made for it: Thunderstorm, Deluge, Cistern, Landslide and the Blaze weave. The Landslide now also drags down nearby enemy planks.
  • v22 The tutorial teaches the cross: the first Gust and the enemy one are on the same row, and a bridge takes the last Gust onto the enemy temple’s row.
  • v21 The hand: hold down on a loose rock on your island, pull your finger back like a slingshot and let go. A curve of dots shows the flight and a ring shows where it lands. The rock does 40 damage, costs 10 faith, and then the hand rests for 20 seconds. The Gust pushes it in flight.
  • v17.3 The Route of the Winds has fifteen worlds in six chapters, and each world gives you just one new thing. You start with bridges, Collectors, Gusts and Steles; then, one world at a time, come the Wall, the four elements, the specials, faith and miracles, the crews, the nests and the truce.
  • v17 Flyers don’t need bridges, but they can’t fly for long and go back to the nest to rest. Each family has just one counter: the Mirror for kites, Mist for sparks, the Gust for clouds, the Pylon for lanterns.
  • v16.1 A Fog sky still shortens Gusts and Mirrors, but now you can see it. While you place a tower, its circle shows its range right now, and the full range stays dashed and faint. The same goes for the circles of enemy towers.
