Character

Volana

The goddess of the Wind, the oldest of the four gods. She carries the wind to the faraway springs; now she sleeps in the first spring, at Crowstone.

Who she is

Volana is the Wind, the first of the four characters of the first wind, which came out at Crowstone. She’s the oldest of the gods: she carries the wind of the other three from one sky to the next, all the way to the faraway springs. She says little, in gusts, short sentences. She has no figure: you see her in the blue threads of wind that run between the islands.

The sleep

After many seasons Volana stops to sleep in the first spring, at Crowstone. While she sleeps, the wind no longer reaches the faraway skies, and there the springs dry up and no new ones are born: that’s why the sky of your temple is drying up. She wakes when a Keeper turns to light on the altar at Crowstone, and her first breath goes where the temple that woke her chooses.

Her gifts

Bridges and the Veiled who walk them, the Gusts, the Cloud Wall and the Current. On the Route of the Winds she’s chapter 1, “Volana’s Breath”: you start with what she left you. Her element: Wind. Since v18 Volana also passes through the matches, in her sleep: see Visits of the gods.

What’s new

  • v24.6 Every world has its own sky. On the route it follows the story: clear and windy in Volana's worlds, veiled with rain in Nembra's, warm with sunset in Lucerno's, dark in the last ones. Other worlds have a fixed sky: same world, same sky.
  • v24 After Crowstone two new things open in the menu. The Free world is your home sky, with no enemy, and it saves itself. Gods’ Challenges are eight trials, two per God: if time runs out you haven’t lost, you try again.
  • v22 A match now lasts 20-30 minutes. Wind comes in more slowly, buildings cost more, the rack refills in 7 seconds, and a fallen temple rises again after 90 seconds. The late hours start at minute 22, and you can offer a truce from minute 15. Night, visits of the gods, prayers, drifting islands and Siege waves come later.
  • v21 The opening tale is new: a film in fourteen scenes, with Refolo telling how Volana sleeps at Crowstone and how whoever wakes her chooses where her first breath goes. If you had seen the old tale, you see the new one once, at startup; after that you’ll find it in “The Tale”. At the end it takes you to “Learn to play”. The prologue of the Route of the Winds is now a short reminder.
  • v20 The cards for the visits of the gods have a picture: the sign of the element in its color.
  • v20 After a match on the Route of the Winds, the title screen goes back to the world you had chosen. Before, Skirmish started again on the route world, and there the visits of the gods, night, villages and prayers stayed off until you reloaded the page.
  • v20 At Crowstone, when Volana wakes up, a line says what kind of God you became along the route: Guardian God, Storm God or still a young God.
  • v19 The panel for a visit of the gods, opened by tapping the label on the circle, closes at the end of the match and when you leave to the menu: before, it stayed open into the next match.
  • v18 Visits of the gods: about every two minutes Volana, Saetto, Nembra or Lucerno pass over the sky. Twenty seconds before, the map marks a circle for each temple, at the same distance, with the God’s name and the seconds left.
  • v18 Saetto sends one lightning bolt per second (a Lightning Rod catches it), Nembra makes the springs in the circle give more, Lucerno gives light of every element and repairs, and a golden bubble falls from Volana’s dream.
  • v18 In four-player matches the messages follow the story: the enemy Keeper brought to your altar turns to light and rises to the gods. The route says fifteen worlds in the Feats too.
  • v17.3 The story has its gods: Volana of the Wind, Saetto of the Lightning, Nembra of the Rain and Lucerno of the Sun. Each chapter is a meeting with one of them. Volana sleeps in the first spring, at Crowstone, and Sterpa, the spirit of a temple in the south, is racing to wake her before you.
